DESERVED SUCCESS

Summerghand has been hitting the crossbar in these big handicaps for a while and he has swooped late to earn a well-earned success!

He was desperately unlucky at Royal Ascot in the Wokingham, but today is his day in the sun at the expense of Kimifive, who has run a cracker.

Meraas had every chance but weakened out of things late, while Nahaar was disappointing.

3.35 Goodwood result

1st Summerghand 22-1

2nd Kimifive 11-1

3rd Brian The Snail 66-1

4th Swindler 12-1

STEWARDS' CUP BUILD UP

Just 20 minutes until the big one of the day at Goodwood. Here are the thoughts of some of the big players…

William Haggas, Nahaarr

“I think fast ground will suit him, and he's a progressive horse. He's gone up a lot for winning at Newbury (7lb) – but hopefully he is improving, and a lot of horses in the race are running off high marks.”

Charlie Johnston, Meraas

“He's a progressive horse, and the only blot on his copybook was the race at Newmarket.

“He bounced back to win at Hamilton, which is not dissimilar to Goodwood. I think the fast ground will be ideal for him, and we're looking forward to it. We hope he's a Group-class sprinter in the making.”

David O'Meara, Summerghand & Gulliver

“Both horses are in good form, and there hasn't been much between them for a few years – they're very similar in terms of ability.

“The pair of them have plenty of weight, and there's always a chance you'll come up against something better handicapped, but they're both in good order.”

EASY AS YOU LIKE

Enbihaar has won back-to-back Lillie Langtry's and does it with the minimum of fuss.

She stretched clear in fine style to beat Cabaletta, with Snow the last of three.

She is entered in the Irish St Leger – that looks an obvious target as she chases a first Group 1 win.

3.00 Goodwood result

1st Enbihaar 1-2f

2nd Cabaletta 7-1

3rd Snow 11-4

NO BET RACE

A disappointing renewal of the Lillie Langtry numbers wise with just the three contenders.

Mind you, they're not a bad trio, and last year's winner ENBIHAAR will likely be hard to beat.

SNOW and CABALETTA complete the field. This is going to be tactical and is a no bet race for me.

JOCKEY'S TITLE BID?

William Buick has just banged in his fourth winner of the day at Newmarket on 13-8 favourite Karibana. That's 50 for the season and he is only 8 behind Oisin Murphy.

He's starting to build up a bit of momentum in the jockey's championship, could we have a three-horse race between Murphy, Tom Marquand and Buick?

JOLLY JOHNNO

All eyes were on King's Advice and Themaxwecan for trainer Mark Johnston – but it's the least fancied of his three runners in Hochfeld who has come over the top late to beat Shailene.

The well-punted favourite Laafy travelled smoothly but went out like a light – didn't look to get home.

2.25 Goodwood result

1st Hochfeld 15-2

2nd Shailene 14-1

3rd Indianapolis 8-1

RACE TWO TIPS

I'm quite keen on KING'S ADVICE here.

He won this race off 4lb higher last year and he has had excuses the last twice. He wouldn't be the first Mark Johnston horse to rediscover some form at this meeting.

YOU BEAUTY

Treacherous wins in fine style for Ed De Giles and jockey Harry Bentley.

He was forced to make his challenge on the wing but he has quickened clear close home.

Excuse me while I blow by own trumpet. Even a broken clock and all that..

1.50 Goodwood result

1st Treacherous 7-1

2nd Dream Today 22-1

3rd Lamplighter 22-1

4th Rewaayat 3-1f

FAMILY AFFAIR

Cracking story in this opener at Goodwood.

Call Me Ginger is racing against his brother Primo's Comet, and they also take on their half-brother Tommy G!

All three are trained and were bred by Jim Goldie out of the mare Primo's Heights. Remarkable.

OPENING RACE THOUGHTS

The opener at Goodwood and first race live on ITV is in half an hours time.

I quite like TREACHEROUS. He's a C&D winner in cracking form and he won with quite a bit in hand at Haydock last time out.

Top tipster Templegate has plumped for bottom weight TOMMY G for trainer Jim Goldie, who is no stranger to success at this meeting.

SOUND OF SILENCE

What a pity that punters won't be allowed on course at Goodwood today.

The course had made a huge effort to get the venue in tip-top shape for 5,000 racegoers – but track side will remain empty this afternoon.

EACH-WAY THIEF

Not managed to pick up your copy of The Sun today? Here are the picks for Saturday's Each-Way Thief…

“THE LAMPLIGHTER (1.50 Goodwood) managed to finish second at Newmarket last time despite losing a shoe so put him in an each-way double with MORDRED (2.25 Goodwood) who went close at York latest.”

NEED SOME HELP?

It's a tricky old card at Goodwood today. Luckily, my colleague Callum Jamieson has previewed all the action and picked out his best bets.

Jack Keene 's avatarJack KeeneToday, 11:52

LAST LAAF

Our racing insider Trackman has heard plenty of whispers for LAAFY in the 2.25 at Goodwood today.

He said: “There is a strong word for Laafy at Goodwood today.

“This fella is more reliable than Big Ben and I’m told Sir Michael Stoute’s pals will be gutted if he gets turned over.”

HERE TODAY, SCONE TOMORROW

With the expected 5000 punters now unable to enjoy a day at the races at Goodwood, the course are donating surplus food to local food banks – including a hefty amount of scones!

It's been a mixed bag with the old NAPs this week, but our team of tipsters and journalists are confident they can end the week on a high.

RISE AND SHINE

Morning all. How fast has this week flown by?

We've already reached the final day of Glorious Goodwood and it's been quite a week (if not a shocking one on the punting front).

Stradivarius bagged his fourth Goodwood Cup on Tuesday, Mohaather won the race of the season on Wednesday and Battaash broke his own track record in the King George.

If you were hoping to get yourself out of a hole on Day 5 with a winner or two, the racing doesn't get much easier today!

Just the 27 sprinters are set to tackle the Stewards' Cup at 3.35pm, with Nahaarr the favourite for the irresistible duo of William Haggas and Tom Marquand.

We will have all angles covered right here throughout the day, you won't miss a thing.
